Gym Report 3/18

I did it! I got up and went to the gym! It was hard because, I don't know if you noticed, but since Sunday it's dark in the early morning again. I can't wait until the sun is up when I am.

I did workout 1 for week 2 of the Couch to 5K. Actually, to be honest I'm going to say I did workout .8 for week 2. Workout 1 is a 5 minute warm up, then 6 intervals of 90 seconds of running and 2 minutes of walking. During the 5th interval I got a stitch in my side. I tried to jog through it, but finally stopped running at 75 seconds. I intended to make the 6th interval 105 seconds, but the stitch came back and that one was only 75 seconds as well. So I'm not counting the workout toward the Couch to 5K progress. I still have 3 workouts for week 2 to do. I'm not on any sort of deadline and I'm fine with easing into this and making sure I'm really ready to move forward.

The fabulous news is, my ankles didn't hurt! They were a little sore afterward, but I stretched and hopefully they'll be ready for more running by Saturday morning, when I'm totally going to own workout 1 for real.

I also did a 20 minute weight machine circuit. Does anyone else have aimless gym people you have to navigate around? There was this guy there this morning who was just kind of wandering from weight machine to weight machine. He would sit at one, put the weight really high, then do one really fast set of 10 or so reps, looking like he was going to die the entire time. Then he would get up and aimlessly wander to another machine.

When I do weights I like to bounce between two different machines between sets so that I'm never just sitting there doing nothing. Since there were 3 people in the weight area this morning, I thought there wouldn't be an issue. Only, the aimless wanderer cut me off 3 times. It was no big deal, I just went to a different machine and then came back to the one he used, but the other guy in the weight area saw this happen each time and after the 3rd time, we made eye contact and he smiled and rolled his eyes at the wanderer. I love gym solidarity.

In addition to the gym time, this morning I walked to work. I felt energetic and it's an amazingly beautiful day here. Perfect for a 2 mile walk!

I am having a hard time getting up early to exercise, too! I want the sunshine back.

Great job on your C25k. It sounds like you are doing it just the right way. I just started week 5 and have been doing it for over 6 weeks now. It is important to do it at a pace that is good for you.
