Day 1 of the Diet Coke Detox

I keep reading more and more about things I already knew: Diet Coke is full of chemicals and not good for you and aspartame may cause cancer or just make you really, really unwell. Plus, my teeth are getting more yellow and I have a feeling my daily Diet Coke may have something to do with that. I've just been in denial about everything.

However, since our supply of Diet Coke is running low, it's the perfect time to stop drinking so much of it. I mean, I only drink 1 or 2 cans a day, but still.

Today I'm not drinking any at all. I was actually supposed to start on Saturday and I didn't have any soda all day. Then we went out for a late dinner after a concert and without thinking, I ordered a Diet Coke. It wasn't until I had the drink in my hands that I realized what I had done. Oh well. So today is Day 1.

Observation #1: I'm getting really sleepy as mid-afternoon creeps up on me. I have a pear, but I'm trying to hold out until 3 PM for the natural sugar high.

Observation #2: I'm less hungry. I don't know if this is a side effect that will stick around, but seriously, I'm just not that hungry today. Usually I need at least 300 calories for breakfast and then I'm hungry again by 11 AM. Today I had 212 calories for breakfast and didn't eat the other thing I brought with me to work. Around 12:30 I figured I should go get some lunch, but I wasn't starving by a long shot. Of course I don't know that it has anything to do with the Diet Coke, but here's hoping.

You might be drowsy because you're thirsty...did you replace your diet coke with anything? Seltzer? Water? Something like that?

I looooove diet coke...but I van't drink it because I'm preggers. I'm finding it to be a great way to drop some bad food habits. (and pick up some new ones on the way!)

Oh, I drink a lot of water anyway. Even moreso now that I'm not drinking Diet Coke. I think it probably is the caffeine.

I don't think I knew you were pregnant. Congratulations!

I used to drink about a can a day of diet coke, but I'm off it completely now. It wasn't really planned out - I just started drinking it less and less. Now I find myself avoiding it. If I drink anything carbonated I feel like I blow up like a bubble myself. It isn't pleasant at all. :( I don't think an occasional soda is bad for you, but I'm sure that not drinking any is better!! Good luck with the detox!!! :)
