Snackies

Does anyone have any good, sweet, sugar-free snackie ideas? I'm looking for something very particular and I don't know if I'm going to find it. I'm doing document review right now which is really boring, and it's so tempting to start thinking about what snacks I want and how I can go about procuring those snacks so that they're sitting next to me at my desk within my reach to pop into my mouth every few seconds to distract me from the boring work.

Red Raspberry Dollars were fulfilling this need. They're yummy and gummy and perfect to suck on for awhile because if I chew them I'm convinced my one filling will be yanked right out of my tooth. However, I'm not eating the sugar anymore.

I bought some sugar-free Creme Savers, and while they're good, they seem to be making my insides churn up a bit. Eww.

I've also been chewing gum toward the end of my workday, but mint and cinnamon get samey. Maybe it would help to buy some Carefree Coolers gum, which is yummy and sugar-free.

But in the meantime, does anyone have a good snack idea for me?

You could go to Trader Joe's and get some trail mix (with fruit in it). It's not bad as long as you watch the calories. Plus, there's a new gum -- I think it's Trident Splash -- that tastes just like a dessert.

This isn't sugar free, but this what I get when I have a craving- dried cranberries. Craisins are about 140 calories for 1/4 cup (admittedly not alot). Or, there are new sugar-free Jello pudding cups with only 60 calories per cup now! Finally...what about yogurt? They are not sugar free, but if you get Yoplait Whips they're like a very low calorie dessert. Hope this helps! If you get a chance, check out my blog...I too battle the bulge! www.thelosthawaiian.blogspot.com Hang in there!

Yeah, dried fruit rocks (but it's true that cranberries usually come with extra sugar and, weirdly, oil). I'm a big fan of dried apricots. It can be caloric if you go on a crazy binge, but they're so high in fiber and vitamins that you really can't feel that bad about yourself. And those Creme Savers are solid trans fat, my dear. I love trail mix and dried fruit but they always seem to be really high-cal. I'm not good at stopping at a 1/4 Cup.

Jenn, sugar-free Creme Savers? Really? I'm so sad.

I feel your pain because my diet (the Southbeach Diet) tells me to avoid sugar. So, like you, I too have tried Lifesavers Creme Savers and couldn't help but lol at your statement that they make your insides "churn up." Apparently, you did not notice the warning contained underneath the ingredient list and conveniently hidden by the packing crease: "EXCESS CONSUMPTION MAY HAVE A LAXATIVE EFFECT."

In addition to laying off the cremesavers ;), I recommend that you consult the Southbeach Diet book for sugar free snack ideas.

Samples, thanks for the suggestion!

I like to have an apple with natural peanut butter. Natural PB is the stuff that's basically just ground up peanuts with no added sugar. If you need a touch of sweet, sprinkle a bit of Splenda in the PB before spreading on apple. Tasty, high fiber, and filling.

Kerri, I love natural peanut butter, and have only eaten that for years. Jif, etc, taste too fake. Apples and peanut butter are so yummy. Sometimes I do apples and an ounce or two of cheese.
